Regular attendance is important for steady growth and progress. Parents need to stress the importance of maintaining regular attendance. Children miss out in instruction when they are absent. We encourage parents to set a goal for their children to have perfect attendance unless their child is sick.
Children who miss more than 10 days in a semester may be required to attend after-school tutoring at the parents’ expense. A tutor will be provided by the school, and parents will pay the tutor directly. The rate will be set by the tutor.
Tardiness: Instruction starts at 8:00 a.m. Children who are not in class at that time are considered TARDY. When a child is tardy for school he/she not only loses valuable instructional time, but also disrupts the class. Out of concern for your child(ren) and consideration for others, please have your child(ren) in school on time.
When a student arrives at school after 11 a.m. or leaves school before 11 a.m., he/she is marked absent for the day.
Student Absences and Make-up Assignments: Whenever your child is absent, PLEASE SEND A NOTE with your child when he/she returns to school. Out of consideration for your child and others, please do not send your child to school if he/she is ill.
Illness: Although we are stressing perfect attendance, children should not attend school when they are sick. Symptoms which would keep a child from attending school include fever, rashes, ukus (head lice), green secretions from a runny nose, or a deep cough. These are contagious and will infect the rest of the students. If a child becomes ill while at school, parents will be contacted to pick up their child.
If you would like assignments for your child while he/she is absent, please notify your child’s teacher and/or the school office. Assignments will be available for pick-up on the following day after school.
Excused/ Unexcused Absences: An absence is “excused” when a parent calls or sends a note explaining a legitimate reason for the absence. When no notice is given to the school, an absence is considered “unexcused”.
Early Release Procedure: Students are permitted to leave school for the day during school hours upon written request of parents for medical services and emergencies. Teachers need ample time to prepare the assignments, make copies, and write out instructions for children who leave early. If notice is not given ahead of time, make-up work may not be available.
For non-emergency situations please send a note with your child to the office in the morning so that arrangements may be made to have him/her meet you at the office at the specified time. Parents should not get their child directly from his or her classroom.
*Medical and dental appointments should be made for after school hours, during vacations, and non-school days, whenever possible so instructional time will not be lost.
Weather Emergencies: Whenever exceptional, unusual weather makes it unwise or impossible for schools to be in session, the Principal of Ta’iala Academy will make the announcement to the news media; information may be obtained by listening to local radio stations; or you may log onto the Ta’iala Academy Facebook page for updates. During emergencies, we suggest that you utilize one of these options.
Additionally, teachers will personally call all students/parents to notify them of a school cancellation.
